I received an email today, from Himanshu Gosar, who asks can i connect the xbox 360 wireless controler with my PC. I don’t play much on my xbox 360, but the controller is still a good one, and games on the PC are much cheaper. How can i use it?
Wired Xbox 360 controllers are straightforward, and install easily, by simply plugging in the device. But for wireless controllers the path is a little trickier.
You will need to purchase a Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows.
These receivers are slightly expensive, costing between Rs 1200 to 2000, and there are many fake ones also present. The official Microsoft version will be a tad more expensive, but it’s worth it.
In order to install the receiver, you would plug in the USB end of the cable to a free USB port on your computer. The system should install the drivers automatically, but i did receive an unknown device error. In order to fix this, we would need to open up the device manager, right click on the device listed, and update driver.
On the next screen, click on browse my computer for driver software.
Then choose Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
Scroll down in the list to XBOX 360 peripherals, double click on it, you would see a list of device drivers available.
Click on Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for windows.
Click next, click ok on the warning, and it’s installed.
Now we need to pair the Controller to the receiver, for this push the button available on the receiver, and it would start to blink. On a Xbox 360 controller, we push the pair/connect button, which is a small circular button on the back. It would start to blink too, and once connected would stop blinking and show a steady green light.
This reciever allows to connect upto 4 wireless controllers, and also 4 wireless headsets. So if you’re into multi player gaming on the PC, and already have two controllers the investment is worth it.
So you can now dust your old controllers and use them with your PC. Hope you guys have hours of enjoyment, see you all next time.
